How to Manage: Safe Prescribing in Paediatrics

Course summary

This is a new one day How to manage course which will explore safe prescribing within paediatrics. This course will cover the basics of pharmacology, licencing and off label prescribing, monitoring and reporting requirements for adverse drug reactions.

Aims and objectives

The aim of the course is to equip delegates with a deeper knowledge and understanding of practical prescribing scenarios including therapeutic drug monitoring, controlled drugs and common errors/areas of difficulty. Participants will learn a practical approach to prescribing for neonates, infants and in chronic disease scenarios.

Curriculum

The course will examine ways of improving prescribing practice for your patients, your team and your hospital as well as the role of electronic prescribing now and in the future. This will cover managing risk and assessing prescribing, supporting those in difficulty and improving hospital systems. The course has been developed for senior paediatric trainees and newly qualified consultants, who are competent in prescribing but wish to build and develop their confidence and competence in this area.

It is highly recommended that delegates complete the RCPCH Paediatric Prescribing Principles e-learning in advance of attending this course, as sessions will be designed to build upon this core knowledge.
